Step-by-Step: Your Pet’s Dental Care Journey

At Elevate Pet Dentistry, we believe in a thoughtful, staged approach to dental care. Our three-step process ensures every pet receives safe, personalized, and comprehensive treatment—without surprises or unnecessary procedures.

Step 1: Oral Assessment

Your pet’s journey begins with a thorough evaluation—not a procedure. This visit allows us to examine your pet’s mouth and create a tailored care plan before any treatment begins.

What’s Included:

  • Comprehensive oral exam by an experienced veterinarian
  • Medical records and documentation for continuity of care
  • Customized treatment plan outlining any needed extractions or follow-up care

Note: We do not take dental x-rays during the assessment visit. They are performed during your pet’s cleaning under anesthesia for accuracy and safety.

Step 2: Dental Cleaning

Using the information from Step 1, your pet returns for a professional dental cleaning under anesthesia. This ensures a deep clean and allows us to safely evaluate areas beneath the gumline.

What’s Included:

  • Full-mouth dental radiographs (x-rays)
  • Ultrasonic scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar
  • Updated treatment plan if additional findings are discovered
  • Anesthesia, pain management, and monitoring throughout

Why Dental Radiographs Matter

More than 60% of a tooth’s structure lies below the gumline—where infections and pain often begin. X-rays help us diagnose:

  • Hidden root infections
  • Tooth resorption (common in cats)
  • Fractured or retained roots
  • Bone loss from gum disease
  • Abscesses and cysts

That’s why dental radiographs are included with every cleaning—they are essential, not optional.

Step 3: Extractions & Oral Surgery (If Needed)

If your pet needs surgical extractions or further oral care, we schedule a follow-up procedure within 60 days of the cleaning.

What’s Included:

  • All necessary oral surgeries and extractions
  • Post-extraction dental x-rays to ensure success
  • Take-home pain medications and detailed recovery instructions
  • Continued comfort care and anesthesia monitoring

Aftercare & Recovery at Home

Elevate Pet Dentistry is an outpatient facility. Your pet will go home with you the same day after their procedure.

While most pets recover comfortably at home, some—especially seniors or those with health concerns—may benefit from overnight monitoring. If you feel this may be necessary, please contact your primary care veterinarian or local emergency hospital in advance to arrange extended care.
