Dental Care for Dogs & Cats

Loose teeth, bad breath, or a sudden change in eating habits? These can all be signs of serious dental disease in your pet.

Just like people, pets benefit from regular dental cleanings—starting at an early age. Our veterinarians recommend annual cleanings and polishings to help prevent dental disease before it starts.

Without routine care, dental problems can go unnoticed until it’s too late. At that point, your pet may already be facing:

  • Painful gum infections
  • Tooth abscesses or loose teeth
  • Bone loss in the jaw
  • Even damage to internal organs caused by chronic inflammation

Periodontal disease is one of the most common—yet under-treated—conditions in pets. When left unchecked, it doesn’t just hurt your pet’s mouth; it can impact their overall health and quality of life.

The good news? Early, affordable care makes a big difference.

Complete Oral Health Assessment & Treatment for Your Pet

Your pet’s dental health affects their whole body. A Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment & Treatment goes far beyond what daily brushing can accomplish at home. This professional service addresses hidden problems that develop beneath the gumline, where harmful bacteria multiply and cause serious damage. Our pet dentist in Charlotte provides thorough care designed to protect your dog or cat from painful dental disease and related health complications.

At Elevate Pet Dentistry, we understand that plaque forms quickly on your pet’s teeth, even with regular brushing. Within hours, this sticky film hardens into tartar that becomes impossible to remove without professional help. This buildup creates pockets along the gumline where bacteria multiply, leading to infections that can spread throughout your pet’s body and affect vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys.

What Makes Professional Dental Care Different

Home care plays an important role, but it cannot replace the deep cleaning your pet needs. Many areas remain unreachable with standard brushing, particularly in cats and pets that resist having their mouths handled. Professional treatment lets us reach every surface and fully examine your pet’s mouth.

Our complete process includes these essential steps:

  • Complete examination of every tooth and surrounding tissue
  • Digital X-rays to reveal problems hidden below the gumline
  • Ultrasonic scaling to break down stubborn tartar deposits
  • Manual cleaning tools for precision work in tight spaces
  • Polishing to create smooth surfaces that resist new buildup

Safe Anesthesia Makes Thorough Care Possible

Anesthesia enables us to perform a complete assessment without causing stress or discomfort. Our pet dentist in Charlotte uses modern techniques and continuous monitoring to keep your companion safe throughout the procedure. We place a protective tube in the airway that delivers oxygen while preventing water or bacteria from entering the lungs during cleaning.

Our safety measures include:

  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork to identify any underlying health concerns
  • Anesthesia tailored to your pet’s needs
  • Continuous vital sign monitoring during the entire procedure
  • Protective airway tube preventing aspiration of water or bacteria
  • Recovery supervision to watch for any post-procedure complications

Professional Dental Cleanings Help Your Pet Stay Healthy

A healthy mouth means a healthier pet. At Elevate Pet Dentistry, we provide comprehensive and affordable dental cleanings for dogs and cats that do what your toothbrush at home can’t accomplish.

Our experienced pet dentist uses advanced tools to safely remove harmful plaque and tartar buildup from above and below the gumline. We perform every cleaning under general anesthesia, creating a stress-free and pain-free experience. This lets us thoroughly clean and examine each tooth. Regular cleanings help prevent disease and catch hidden issues early. We use digital dental x-rays and probing techniques during each procedure to find fractured teeth, infections, and bone loss that can’t be seen during regular checkups.

What Makes Our Cleanings Different

Our pet dentist in Charlotte follows a detailed five-step process that starts with a complete veterinary exam and ends with personalized at-home care instructions. We take time with each step and never skip important diagnostics. Each cleaning includes a full-mouth evaluation with digital x-rays, professional scaling with both hand and ultrasonic instruments, and careful polishing to smooth tooth surfaces and reduce future buildup.

  • Thorough pre-cleaning exam checks your pet’s oral health and creates a treatment plan
  • Full-mouth evaluation with digital dental x-rays examines each tooth above and below the gumline
  • Our dental technicians clean away all plaque and tartar using hand and ultrasonic instruments
  • Polishing smooths tooth surfaces to reduce future buildup
  • Personalized at-home care instructions help maintain oral health between visits

Problems We Help Prevent

Untreated dental disease leads to tooth loss, chronic pain, and infections that can affect major organs. This affects how long your pet lives and how good they feel. Our pet dentist focuses on stopping these issues before they become painful or expensive. We handle different problems in dogs and cats. Dogs commonly face periodontal disease, fractured teeth, endodontic disease, and oral tumors. Cats often develop gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontal disease, and tooth resorption.

  • Catch problems early before they hurt or cost more
  • Clean areas that brushing alone can’t reach
  • Cut down harmful bacteria to keep your pet healthier
  • Find fractured teeth and infections before they start hurting
  • Professional cleanings freshen your pet’s breath and improve comfort

Oral Surgery for Advanced Dental Conditions in Dogs and Cats

Sometimes your dog or cat needs more than a cleaning. When dental problems get serious, oral surgery can help. We perform surgical procedures to treat dental conditions that affect your pet’s mouth, comfort, and quality of life.

Our veterinary team handles cases involving oral masses, severe dental disease, and other problems that need surgery. As your pet dentist in Charlotte, we use modern surgical techniques and give every pet compassionate care.

How Oral Surgery Helps Your Pet

Serious dental problems hurt. Your pet might stop eating normally, avoid playing, or act differently than usual. We treat the underlying problem, not just the symptoms you see.

We use modern anesthesia and monitor your pet closely during every procedure. Safety comes first. Here’s what oral surgery treats:

  • Small oral masses that need surgical removal
  • Severe dental disease a cleaning can’t fix
  • Problems that need specialized surgical care
  • Serious oral health issues affecting daily life
  • Ongoing pain or discomfort

Expert Surgical Care for Your Pet

Elevate Pet Dentistry performs oral surgery based on what your pet needs. We remove small oral masses and handle other procedures that require surgical skill. We work to fix the problem while keeping your pet safe and comfortable. As your pet dentist, we treat every patient with care.

Every surgery gets individual attention from our team. We’ll explain what your pet needs and answer your questions. Here’s what makes our surgical care different:

What areas do you serve?

We serve pets across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia through six clinic locations. This includes the Charlotte and Raleigh areas plus surrounding communities, making it easy for pet owners across three states to get dental care. All our locations work under Legacy Veterinary Group, so you get the same great care no matter which one you visit.

Do you offer services beyond dental care?

Yes. While we specialize in dental work, we also provide full veterinary care including wellness checkups, senior pet care for pets over seven, and surgeries like spay and neuter. We have emergency and urgent care, fast diagnostic testing with our in-house lab, and puppy and kitten care including shots and deworming. We also offer boarding, daycare, and grooming like baths, nail trims, haircuts, and ear cleaning. We can take care of all your pet’s health needs in one place.

What happens if my pet needs tooth removal?

If X-rays show your pet needs teeth pulled to stop pain and feel better, we schedule this within 60 days of the cleaning. We gently remove problem teeth, take X-rays after to make sure we got everything, and send you home with pain medicine and clear recovery instructions. We work to remove infected teeth and stop the pain while saving as many healthy teeth as we can.

Will my pet come home the same day?

Yes. We’re an outpatient clinic, so your pet goes home the same day after their dental work. Pets heal better at home with their families than staying overnight at a clinic. You get complete aftercare instructions from our pet dentist and medicine for a smooth recovery. Call us anytime if you have questions while your pet is recovering.

How do I know if my pet needs dental care?

Watch for bad breath, trouble eating or chewing, pawing at their mouth, tartar you can see, red or bleeding gums, loose teeth, and changes in how they chew or what they eat. But many problems like gum disease and bone loss hide under the gumline where you can’t see them. That’s why regular dental checkups matter so much for your pet’s mouth health. If you see any warning signs or it’s been over a year since their last cleaning, call us to schedule a checkup with our pet dentist.
